Eliminating Violence Against Women

In October 2000, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 1325. This act recognized the unique impact of conflict on women, and the importance of their participation in peace-building and conflict prevention. In June 2008, the Security Council adopted Resolution 1820 recognizing sexual violence as a tactic of war. Furthermore, it established a link between sexual violence against women and the implications of that in women’s political participation and women’s empowerment.

The adoption of these Resolutions is only the first step in eliminating global violence against women.
